joined now, let me say few words about this Ghalib series.
Ghalib, his Ghazals, his poems, his genius, and his wits have always
fascinated millions of Urdu lovers including myself. Those who want to

This is my 21st installment. I have
received excellent response from lot of friends; both Urdu and non-Urdu
speakers. Please know that this is my own, Asghar Vasanwala’s, work and
not a forwarding of someone else’s work as some you thought. Please

Here is today’s
verse (she'r) & its explanation in Urdu, Gujarati, and English
احباب چارہ سازیِ وحشت نہ کر
سکے زِنداں میں بھی خیال، بیاباں نَورد تھا
احباب
= حبیب کی جمع
چارہ سازیِ وحشت = دِیوانگی کا
عِلاج
زِنداں =قید خانہ
بیاباں نورد = جنگلوں
میں بھٹکنے والا قیدخانہ
میری دیوانگی او ر وحشت
کو دیکھ کر میرے دوستوں نے مُجھے بانڈھ کر قید توکر لیا تا کہ
میں جنگلوں میں مارا مارا نہ پھروں اور میرے عشق کا جنون اور
زیادہ نہ بڑھے ۔ میرے دوستوں نے میرے جسم کو تو قید کر
لیا لیکن وہ میرے خیال کو قید نہ کر سکے! میرے خیال تو
قید میں بھی بیابانوں میں ہی بھٹک رہے تھے۔ یعنی کہ میرے
دوستوں کا علاج کامیاب نہ ہو سکا
غالِب ؔ کا یہ شعر
مُجھ ے بہت اچھاّ لگتا ہے۔ انسان اگر اپنی دُھن کا پکاّ
ہو تو دُنیا کی کو ئی طاقت اُسے مانع نہیں آ سکتی ۔ جناب
منڈیلاؔ، مہاتما گاندھیؔ، فیض احمد فیضؔ، آیت ا للہ خمینی ،
ابولکلام آزادؔ ، اور عیسی مسیح کی مثالیں اس شعر کی تصدیق
میں ہر سو گونج رہی ہیں
اسی انداز میں کسی اور شاعر نے کہا ہے:
مجھے
اسیر کریں یا میری زبان کاٹیں میرے خیال کو
بیڑی پہنا نہیں سکتے

ना
कर
सके
ज़िन्दां में
भी
ख़याल,
बयाबां नवर्द

= हबीब की जमा friends चारा
साज़े-ए- वहशत = दिएवानगी का इलाज
ज़िन्दां = क़ैदख़ाना बयाबां नोरिद =जंगलों
में भटकने वाला
मेरी दीवानगी और वहशत को देख कर मेरे दोस्तों ने मुझे बांध
कर कैद तो कर लिया ता कि मैं जंगलों में मारा मारा
ना फिरूं और मेरे इश्क़ का जुनून और ज़्यादा ना बढ़े । मेरे दोस्तों ने मेरे
जिस्म को तो कैद कर लिया लेकिन वो मेरे ख़याल को कैद ना कर सके! मेरे ख़याल
तो कैद में भी बयाबानों में ही भटक रहे थे। यानी कि
मेरे दोस्तों का इलाज कामयाब ना हो सका
ग़ालिब का ये शेअर मुझे बहुत अछ्छा
लगता है। इन्सान अगर अपनी धून का पक्का
हो तो दुनया की कोई ताक़त उसे माने नहीं आ सकती । जनाब मंडेला, महात्मा गांधी,
फ़ैज़ अहमद फ़ैज़, आयतूल्लाह
ख़ुमैनी , अबूलकलाम आज़ाद , और ईसी
मसीह की मिसालें इस शेअर की तस्दीक़ में हर सू गूंज
रही हैं
इसी अंदाज़ में किसी और शायर ने कहा है:
मुझे असीर करे यह मेरी ज़बान काटें
मेरे ख़याल को बीड़ी पहना नहीं सकते
એહ્બાબ ચારાસાઝીએ વેહ્શત ન કર સકે
ઝીન્દાં મેં
ભી ખયાલ,
બ્યાબાં નવર્દ

નવર્દ = ભટકનાર
મારી
દીવાનગી ને મારું ગાંડપણ જોઈ મારા
દોસ્તોએ મને બાંધી કેદ કરી દીધો કે હું જંગલ ને રણ માં માર્યા માર્યો ન
ફરું અને મારા ઈશ્ક નું ઝનુન ન વધે. મારા દોસ્તોએ મારા શરીર ને જકડી તો
લીધું પણ મારા વિચારો ને કેદ કરી ન શક્યા કેમકે કેદ માં પણ મારા વિચારો તો
જંગલ ને રણ માં જ ભટકતા રહ્યા. મારા મિત્રો નો ઈલાજ કામયાબ ન થયો.
ગ઼ાલિબ નો
આ શેર મને
બહુ ગમે છે. ઇન્સાન જો પોતાની ધૂન નો
પાકો હોય તો
દુનિયા ની કોઈતાકત તેને રોકી નથી શક્તિ.
નેલ્સન મંડેલા,
મહાત્મા ગાંધી,
ઇસુ ખ્રિસ્ત,
અબુલ કલમ આઝાદ,
ફેઝ એહમદ, ફેઝ,
આયતુલ્લા ખુમેની,
વગેરે નાદાખલા આ
શેર ની સચ્ચાઈ ના
પડઘા આકાશ સુધી મોકલે છે.
આજ રંગ નો બીજો
શેર છે.
મુઝે અસીર કરે યા મેરી ઝબાં કાટે મેરે ખ઼યાલ કો બેડી પેહના નહિ સકતે

Ahbab chara-sazi-e-vehsat na kar sake
My friend
couldn’t find cure for my (love) craze
ZindaN meiN bhi Khayal bayabaaN nawrd tha
In prison also, my thoughts were
wandering in desert
Ahbab= Plural of
Habib=a friend chara-sazi=treatment, cure vehshat=extreme behavior,
craziness ZindaN=prison, confinement
bayabaaN=jungle, desert
naward= imperative of Persian verb Nawurdan=toroam
'bayabaaN nward=
one who roams in un-inhibited places like desert and jungles
This is the 6th verse of Ghalib’s 7th ghazal.
We
are skipping the 5th verse. This ghazal is not popular at
street level yet it is a beautiful one; I love it.
Meaning: To
“cure” my crazy behavior my friends put restrains on me and threw me
into a prison so that I wouldn’t roam in deserts and jungles and flare
my love-craze. Though they put physical restrains on my body, they
couldn’t restrain my thoughts and my spirit; because even in jail, I
could mentally roam in jungles and deserts. Meaning, my friends’ efforts
to restrain me, miserably failed.
I
like this verse very much. If a person is determined and has a will of
steel, no super power can restrain him. Examples of Nelson Mandela,
Mahatma Gandhi, Faiz-Ahmed Faiz, Abul Kalam Azad, Jesus Christ,
Ayatollah Khomeini and many others have put their seal of approval on
this verse which resonates from horizon to horizon.
There one more Urdu verse by someone else that testifies the same idea:
Mujhe asir kare ya meri zaban kaTe mere Khayal ko beDi pehna nahiN
sakte '

Asir = a prisoner
They may imprison me or
may cut off my tongue They shall never
succeed shackling my thoughts (and my spirit)
